What an interesting idea. It is different and unique. Handy if you are allergic to all metals or are interested in eco-friendly jewelry.
The down sides? I have only found two: must not be soaked in water. You also have to remember that they are not metal and if you weight lift or play rugby with a wood ring on, you will more then likely end up breaking it. Anything that puts a great deal of pressure on your hand and your clenching it, is bad.
The up sides? Each ring is unique because each comes from a different pieces of wood. They come in a variety of styles and they are good for the environment. Wood rings can also be custom made to fit your personality and style.
Also these rings are not very expensive. They are between $150-$250.
